Old Blood makes way for New Blood

After the reaction to last year's campaign for its New Blood event,
D&AD has taken a different tack with its latest promotional work.
The posters still feature prominent members of the creative
community, but each is depicted at the point of ending it all: the
quality of the New Blood on the horizon proving too much to bear...

North London Cemetery

I went up to the biggest cemetery in London today.
Thought it would be really gloomy, bleak, depressing
but actually I had an interesting and peaceful time
(apart from cycling up the biggest hills in the world,
my bike hasn't been into those gears EVER!!)

Look at this photo..can you believe it, there was loads
of stuff like this, amazing! Quite sad actually as this
was for a little boy.

Some inspiration please?

I'm trying to finish up my word and image elective which is about the banality of celebrity, however my magazine spreads are looking awful!

If you guys have any good references for posters/magazines/whatever that have this sort of bold typography please point me in their direction I will be very grateful.

Branding and ethics anyone?

Take a look at Marlboros sneaky advertising at formula 1!

MALCOLM MCLAREN FUNERAL CORTEGE

Now I'm really confused, just received this email from Paul:
"You really must look at images of Malcolm Maclaren's funeral
and burial -- a truly post-religigious tribute with appropriately
inappropriate iconography."

So I checked it out and it is really cool! Do you think I need to be
inspiring more people to take stop seeing death so seriously.
Mr McLaren was a bit of a one in a million huh! Wonder what
Viv will do when it comes to her turn? Guess she needs to top
this huh!

Ahhh what to do??! Maybe I should be looking at creating a new,
relevant identity for death in 21st century!

The London Onion

This made me laugh. It's one of Moving Brands concepts for the rebrand London pitch. I am guessing this route was just to be daft!
http://abrandforlondon.wordpress.com/2009/09/04/london-onion/

OMG moment of clarity OR insanity!!!!

Just come to realise that where I thought I was going for my MPP isn't where I want to be going at all. I still think it's a really good idea and think it is a project that I will work on in my own time. I think I just want to document loads of different types of memorials and make a book, but this will be a much longer project as I can't make people die, unless I actually start going out murdering people then documenting their memorials....oooo how very dark!!!

I think I want to focus on the area of branding and ethics and how branding gives something an identity that might not actually be true! I think I might like to try to brand London or England or the world!!! Mwahhaaahaha!! I know that they are looking at a new brand for London a the moment but how can you really brand a city and who is the audience? The people who live there or tourists? And if it's tourists then you are selling that city! A city isn't a product it's a living breathing thing! Ooooo lord, is this super risky doing a massive about turn at the 11th hour??? Ahhhhh!

Please advise guys!

Memorial

Took this a couple of months ago for word and image, the parents left a picture of the girl who died in the little plastic bag but it went missing.

Models are whack!

GEMMA, have you seen this campaign?

Danish design

Just across the North Sea is a small country called Denmark. We came to take your country some 1000 years ago. That’s where I'm from. Nowadays we're not that violent, but we do have some nice deisgn studios I would like to show you:

Roadside Memorials

For my MPP I am collecting info, pictures ANYTHING
related to memorials. At this point I want to get loads
of images of these vernacular roadside memorials for
accident and murder victims. If anyone sees any on
their travels or comes across anything in any of their
research pursuits can you collect for me. I'll be
very grateful!

Also really interesting graves, plaques on benches
or stone monuments.

Not sure where this is going yet so for now just
going to collect loads of stuff!!

Humorous Branding

If anyone stumbles across some humorous branding/graphic design please let me know! Louise's link to Multistorey had a great little project on for AV festival.

My MA project...

I have a lot of difficulties about unit 2 and the MPP!!! I still really haven’t found an area I want to work with. I have tried to sort out what kind of design I want to use, and made some info graphics about. Now I “just” need to figure out which problem I want to “solve”. I find it bloody hard to define that!

How about you?

Multistorey

I'm so in love with the style of this studios work! http://www.multistorey.net/portfolio.html
